A road map for the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP), Western Australia to enable the department to transition to the new Geocentric Datum of Australia (GDA2020). While implementing the new datum is not an overly complex task, it is however pervasive, as it impacted on all DMP spatial systems and is entrenched in mining and petroleum regulations and documentation. In addition, the graticular grid used by the department to delineate exploration licenses, required special consideration. The recommendations provided a progressive way for DMP to do business in the future. DMP is now at the forefront in providing innovative solutions to support stakeholders in their endeavour to develop Western Australia’s rich mineral resources.
