A GIS Strategy and Road Map for the Shire of Capel – a local government in the South West of Western Australia. The purpose was to provide direction for the development of an enterprise-wide GIS mapping capability for (1) Shire Officers to enhance their business functions; (2) the council and executive for evidence-based decision making; and (3) the broader community for social, cultural and business endeavours. The Shire did not have a Geospatial Program and this was curtailing productivity improvements and workflow automation. The strategy puts in place a road map for the innovative use and sharing of geospatial information. With access to integrated information the Shire is able to make (1) smart choices about where to invest in infrastructure and services; (2) businesses are able to leverage spatial information to create new products; and (3) the community has convenient access to Shire information at any time.
